What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

As I was looking back at my Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilts (see previous post), I thought it would be interesting to remind myself of the other BH patterns I have made. I have included  Bonnie's name for the pattern and my name for individual quilts [in brackets], if they differed. The year indicated was the year that I completed the project.

I started sand castles early last year and have tried to stick to it until it is finished. It was a massive project to cut and sew 3648 pieces and a bunch of strings together, and, more importantly, to keep me on the same project.

I have sewn the last seam on the sand castle quilt.

After laying all the blocks out on the library floor, I started stacking and webbing the sand castle top together. It is getting there. I decided to do two columns of four blocks each. Then, I will just need to sew the two halves together.

I cut all the HSTS for frolic mystery quilt. I planned on taking them with me to Friday group. I didn't work on them at all.

I am certainly late today, as my youngest had his wisdom teeth removed. He is 24 and has aspergers, and doesn't like to be uncomfortable, oh my. He is certain he is dying. I will not give him a bell to call me LOL.
I am moving along on sand castle blocks. I would like to have a top by the end of January.

I bought this kit in September while I was in Utah for our daughter- in - laws funeral. I loved the kit, and the fabrics, and thought I would make it as a way to remember her and heal. Quilting does that for me. It is so beautiful, I was afraid to even open it. Not to mention, I have never spent that much for a quilt. So my first goal for January is to really open, and read, and plan on making this quilt. I may have to learn a new technique and organize a little differently.

I have really been encouraged by the comments from my post yesterday. How lovely to know that there are others like me, loving scraps and fabric. Thank you so much. Now, I need to figure out a way to get it stored better, and keep it off the floor, because, I am getting clumsy enough, I could break myself. tee hee.
I have developed a system for sewing the sand castles blocks together, that I am surprised when I have one done so quickly. Here is the last batch.

I like to make at least one sand castle block each morning before I decide what else needs my attention. They are built a little differently and I like it being different. When I cut my strips into sets of squares and hsts, I figured I would need 64 and I have basically 7 colors so I would need about 9 strips of each color. I have 2 1/2 inch strips sorted by color, so finding them was easy. I find that since I cut them that way, I make them in a color grouping. Here are 4 new ...

I really like that I have gotten to the block part of the sand castles quilt. I started making the string blocks, and, then, making a million 4 patches. Each one is different and looks different and feels like a new surprise every time I finish one.

It was a long weekend, I have been slowly cleaning for company and Thanksgiving. Not my favorite thing to do. So, I do it very slowly with as many distractions as I can find. I did dig the Christmas tree out of storage. So far it looks a little pathetic.
I made another sand castle block. This quilt is in the book string frenzy. I started it here and here and here.

The next step for the Bonnie Hunter sand castles quilt, is cutting the sets for the center block.
I had several strips set aside, but, I miscalculated, and, I couldn't get the whole set. I need to forage some more through my 2 1/2 inch bin to find more strips to cut. It won't be hard to find enough. sigh...

I have been slowly working on bonnie hunter's sandcastles for most of this year. I spent the most time making 512 -4 patch blocks. The first step I took, was sewing the string blocks. I decided that I would cut them now and add the sashing strip.

I have all (512) the 4 patches sewn for sand castles. It took most of the year to sew them as leaders and enders for other projects. I am ready to start cutting the setting pieces for this quilt. I am not in a hurry and didn't plan on finishing this year even, but the 4 patches seemed to go on forever.
